With hopes of capturing
a Schuylkill League Championship title, the Crimson and White entered the season with a close loss and later continued to
roll through with 17 consecutive wins.
The senior
squad members were essential in leading the rest of the team to a winning season. Senior Christian Schlitzer was influential
by sinking 28 out of 55 of his attempted three point shots.
Senior Mark Chiccini was the team's lead guard. He made 43 out of his attempted 62 foul shots. "Our team played great
together. Our seniors were outstanding, they led us at practices and taught us to always work hard, even when you're down.
They are the reason that the team went so far in post season competition," junior Mike Yacobacci said.
On Senior Salute Night senior Derrick McFarland managed to sink his second shot
against his Blue Mountain opponents for three points. This shot allowed McFarland to reach the 1000 point milestone. McFarland
was one of nine people in Pottsville basketball history to reach 1000 points.
"Scoring 1000 points was the greatest experience in my basketball career. I wish everyone could experience it. All of
my hard work from practices and camps paid off when I reached 1000 points. If it wasn't for the help of my teammates, I would
have never been able to reach that milestone," McFarland said.
Senior Tom McGeoy was one of the squad's leading defensive players with 149 total offensive and defensive rebounds. The squad
captured their dream of a Schuylkill League Championship and fought hard, but lost at the semi-finals of District XI to the
Dieruff Huskies.
